Forestville Historical Society Meeting

December 1999

The meeting was called to order at 3:13 P.M.

Introductions were made. We had 11 people present.

Minutes were read and approved

The Treasurer presented his report that there is 320.00 in the bank.

The finances and expenses were discussed.

The meeting place at the Odd Fellows Hall will have to be changed. The original understanding seems to be that we were to meet there for only six months, however we had been unaware of the limitation.

The Food for Thought building has a room we can meet in if we are able to set a different time. The Chamber of Commerce has the room at 4 o’clock on Wednesdays and we would possibly still be conducting our meeting at that time.

Penny said she would be glad to have the next meeting at her home on January 5, 2000, and would notify everyone and send out maps.

We discussed the fact that we need to be incorporated as a non profit organization,

Darleen talked about the picture packets that we have and said she put 20 copies in each of the following: The El Molino Pharmacy, the Hardware Store, the Bank of the West and the Post Office for public sales. We are in debt for these and need to sell them.

Next meeting we need to vote in new officers for President, Publicity and Corresponding Secretary.

Lorna Drake, former teacher at Forestville School and author of the book she titled: Just Before Yesterday, was our speaker. She talked about how it is to write and publish a book She told anecdotes of the process, including how she had 3 ostensible lawsuits (they were dismissed), how she found the people to talk to about their memories of early Forestville and Sonoma County, and how she found places where she could look up more information. Her experiences while trying to get permission to use certain articles, pictures, stories and other material were really interesting, and the process by which she would give credit for some of what she wrote made good listening.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:53P.M.

Respectfully submitted, Verna Blanc, recording secretary.
