MINUTES FOR THE REGULAR MEETING OF tHE fORESTVILLE HISTORICAL SOCIETY

July 7, 1999

 

1. Meeting called to order at 3: oo P. M. and new members were introduced

2. Minutes ftom June 2, 1999 were read

3. There was a presentation of information gleaned from the Oral History Workshop attended by one of the members

4. There was open discussion of possibilities for fund raising

a. Sales of copies of old Forestville photographs

b. Sales of copies of old Forestville maps

c. Sales of creative Forestville "samplers"

d. Sales of the book created by the 4th/5th grade class of Forestville School entitled:

ORAL HISTORIES OF FORRESTVILLE AND FORESTVILLE SCHOOL

e. Sales of the Forrestville magnets

5. Open discussion continued with thoughts of possible activities for the near future

a. A self-guided walking tour of the historic sites of the town of Forestville utilizing members and students in period costume to act as docents, possibly including sales of souvenir photos, magnets, ice cream, spaghetti lunch, or other extra interests. This is suggested to occur in October.

b. A visit to a restored railway car rescued from the old electric railway that served Forestville more than 50 years ago

c. A walk along the path of the old railroad tracks

d. A visit to Cooper's Saw Mill

e. A visit to Raford House Bed and Breakfast

6. A treasurer and a secretary were selected for the Society

7. Dues were set at $10.00 per person per year. The period of membership is to be from June 1st through May 31st annually.

8. The next meeting will be at the same location (Oddfellows Hall, Covey Rd and Highway 116) on August 4, 1999 at 3:00 P.M.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:35 P. M.
