An announcement was made of the Sonoma County Heritage Network meeting at the Depot Park Museum, 270 1st St., Sonoma, on Saturday, January 8th at 9:30 a.m. For further information phone 539-1786
We discussed the place and time of the next meeting and decided an afternoon meeting would allow more members to attend. Our only other choice of open time to meet here is Sunday, so we will meet at 3 PM Sundays at the Food for Thought building for future meetings.
The GENERAL MEETING began at 7:00 PM
Introductions were made of the thirteen people present.
Our speaker, Jeff Tobes, was introduced by retiring President Penny Hutten.
Jeff Tobes is a teacher at Forestville Schoool teaching 5th and 6th grades. He is intensely interested in the history of Forestville and along with his students from last year (the Centennial Year), created a presentation of the last 100 years of the history of Forestville. The entire school took part in the kick-off assembly Jan. 8, 1999, with each class doing a decade of the events of the century.
Jeff presented us with a slide show and commentary celebrating the community from 1899 to the present, with the assistance of Linda Mc Bride
The finale' was a flashlight walk across the street to a neighboring back yard where we viewed what was said to be the old Electric Train Depot, rescued by the residents in the 1970's when the old building was in peril of being demolished.
There was speculation that it might be used for a museum for Forestville artifacts and history, at the head of the walking trail that replaces the rails where the Electric Train once rolled. A good place for the walkers to stop and rest at the end of their walk. "Food for Thought", you might say.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15. Next meeting is February 6th.
Respectfully submitted, Verna Blanc, Secretary.
