Forestville Historical Society

March 2000

The meeting was called to order at 3:05 P. M. by President Lavon Covington.

Introductions were made of the 10 in attendance.

The secretary’s report was accepted as read.

The financial report was read and discussion found that the non profit status is in the works. A Tax Exempt Number is needed, and Treasurer Jerry Hughes will work on it.

Jerry will also work up a budget for the Society.

The need for a Society Charter was mentioned by Lavon. She will look into what is involved, and she and her husband will work up the basic bare bones of one to bring along to the next meeting. By-laws will be needed including naming the Officers of the Society and their duties, and a budget must be outlined.

It was suggested that Cam Parry might be able to write a Historical Society Newsletter column in the Forestville Gazette. If not, Jerry said he would be glad to publish and mail one.

Penny Hutten received a letter from Ross Yeager stating that he had lots of old school class pictures that we might be interested in.

Dave Henry asked about pictures of the "Royal Arms Hotel" that used to be in Forestville. It was mentioned that Ted Rainier has pictures of the old Northern Pacific RR Hal Wood said he could get some old Hacienda Bridge pictures - maybe as old as 1914 and earlier.

Dave also gave us some information about the cost of clip microphones. Which we could use for interviewing townspeople about Forestville history. He said they cost about $500.00. He said some can be obtained for as little as $39.95 but that they are not worth it and we should get something better. Jerry offered to let us use his, which would certainly be easier on the budget!

Lavon suggested a list of people to interview and Penny said she has a list of possible interviewees the she could bring in.

Phil Marcucci, guesting with his wife, Cheri this month, talked about his dad who lived in Trenton from the age of 8 or 9. He will be glad to talk to us about some of his history. Both Penny and Jerry offered to put this information on the Society Web Pages, complete with photos, along with the present family history articles.

Discussion continued about old timers and some who may be up to 100 years old so we need to get those interviews started. Names mentioned were: Davis, Ross, Hart, Frieda Yeager Johnson (Ross Yeager’s sister), Matt Smith, Elsie and Bill. Lorraine offered to interview Matt. Darleen and Penny will also continue to do interviews and Verna offered to write them up. Cheri Marcucci wants to help with interviews as well.

Penny said she would send out booklet copies of how to do oral histories for those who will be helping.

Sending pedigree papers to the interviewees to fill out ahead of time would help the interviews to go smoother. The biggest thing to remember in interviewing is to keep the conversation on track so as to cover all the needed information.

A suggestion was made that some of our members might like to share some of their family history stories at future meetings.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:12 P.M.

Respectfully submitted, Verna Blanc, secretary
