Forestville Historical Society Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 3:05 P. M. by president Lavon Covington.

There were six members present.

The secretary’s report was read and approved with addenda.

Jerry Hughes read his treasurer’s report. He distributed an addenda to the secretary’s report and an updated treasurer’s report.

Darleen discussed cash tendered to her. Lavon said all cash goes to the treasurer for disbursement. Jerry offered $138.00 to Darleen for pictures already paid for by her.

Something of real importance is a budget - the Society funds need a home. We will discuss it further at the next meeting after Lavon and Jerry have a chance to talk more about it.

Concerning a charter for the Society, Lavon had asked Sherman Boivan for details of how to draw one up. Subsequently one was tentatively drawn up for the Forestville Historical Society to approve. Handouts of the tentative charter were distributed today and the members present discussed each article, approving or approving with changes and/or additions as each was read. The basic charter with five small changes was then voted on and became our official permanent charter.

Darleen reported that she had seen Ross Yeager’s photographs of the school classes of 1926 through 1933. Ross will make copies for us and the Society will pay for them. Darleen took a picture of the Yeagers for the web site. She also found an article about the Jewett’s Band.

We took a few moments to talk about the passing of Mondo Dagnello whose family were important to the development of Forestville. The Sebastopol Times and News had a fine article about him in it. Penny has a photo of him as a young man on our web site to honor him. She was fortunate to have done an interview with him not long before he died. His sister is still living but there is only one member in the next generation to carry on.

Dean McGowan’s article on the Silk family is on the Yahoo website about Forestville.

The Forestville parade will be the first Saturday in June ( June 3rd) . We will have a wagon or Model T for our entry with the Society’s name on a sign or banner on the side.

It was announced that The Sonoma County Heritage Network’s next meeting is at the Cloverdale Library.

There was more chat about Forestville history and the book that is being compiled about it. Ross sent Penny an article about the Speers break-in that we can include.

The next meeting will be Sunday afternoon, May 7th at 3 P.M.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:07 P. M.

Respectfully submitted, Verna Blanc, Secretary
