Forestville Historical Society Minutes

This was a special meeting on the Thursday prior to the Forestville Youth Park Parade and Barbecue fund raiser held on Saturday, June 3, 2000. There will be no regular meeting on Sunday, June 4th because of continuing Youth Park activities.

The meeting came to order at 6:14 P. M. with Lavon Covington presiding at her home.

The parade will gather on the streets of Forestville at 9:00 A. M. We will be on the corner of 1st and Center St. where we will decorate the truck and wait for the procession to begin.

Penny brought the new permanent white banner with green lettering that is to be used for the Society’s events. It will be put on the side of the truck that those in the judges stand will see during the parade.

A couple of the Faudre chairs will be fastened on the sides of the truck. Darleen made a banner out of butcher paper during the meeting, for the other side of the truck .

Members will bring card tables, a small ladder to use to get up on the truck bed, pins, paper, tape, etc. to fasten things onto the truck and for the Society’s booth at the Youth Park. Darleen will bring wrapped candy to toss out for the children along the parade route. Everyone will dress in various kinds of period costumes for the big event.

In other business, the Secretary read the minutes of the last meeting which were approved as read.

The Treasurer’s report was the same as at the last meeting. It was approved that

Jerry would write out a check for $60.00 for Penny for the permanent banner, which he did. The banner should last for a very long time.

Lavon reported that we need four copies each of the Charter and the Articles of Incorporation so someone needs to type them up. I volunteered to do it since I have a computer and printer and it would be easy for me to look up the correct Articles of Incorporation form to use. I will send them to Lavon so maybe we will have them completed by the time of our next meeting.

Darleen suggested the Society could go to see Georgetown, the town George Smith built over many years with cast off materials and actual artifacts from old motion pictures. He was active as an extra and bit player in the golden age of movies, and has hundreds of interesting things in his little town that come from early Hollywood. We will consider this in the future.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:15 P.M.

Respectfully submitted, Verna Blanc, Secretary.
